We’ve recently released a major update to SharedPlan Pro. Pro is our project planning and management software for Mac OS X and Windows.
Pro 6 has a wide range of improvements with the most visible being the Calendar view and the improved user interface. The Calendar view provides you with a view into each month of your project and the tasks that are scheduled for any given day. The improved user interface provides you with quicker access to the tools that are most frequently used.
The Calendar view rounds out the views available to you by complementing the Visual Plan editor (a dependency focused project editor), the Gantt Chart editor (an editor focused on the project time line), and the Resource Chart (provides a view into the assignments for each project resource).
Beyond the Calendar view and the improved user interface, we have made a number of internal improvements that increase the robustness of Pro from top to bottom.
Pro 6 is available for purchase immediately.
If you purchased Pro after November 1, 2009 please contact us for a free upgrade to Pro 6.
As always, we provide discounts on upgrades to existing Pro customers.

Most of us have competing demands for our time each day. Well, we’ve just completed an update to SharedPlan Central that takes a look at all of your projects stored in Central and then presents a list of the next tasks and issues you have been assigned. This is an efficient and easy way for you and those on your projects to stay focused and up to date on your assignments without having to look through all the ongoing projects.
Assignments are made using either Pro or the Central editor and assigning a resource to tasks. When the resource logs in to Central he will see his assignments.
As part of this, a resource may mark a task as complete causing email to be sent to the project owner letting her know. We all know that things change so if you later need to mark the task as incomplete – no problem.
This feature is available for your immediate use. Log in to Central now and your tasks and issues (alongside your projects as before) will be presented on your Central home page.

Pro has recently been updated to revision 5.4.19. This latest maintenance release includes:
- fixes related to resource reporting system
- significant performance improvements in calculating the critical path in large projects
- a fix so that earlier and empty portions of the Gantt chart are not displayed
- a fix for exporting calendars to Outlook 2003.

We’ve just made Pro version 5.4.7 available. Pro 5.4.7 of our desktop project management software for Mac OS X and Windows is a maintenance release which fixes a number of minor issues.
We encourage you to update your version of Pro at your earliest convenience.

We’ve recently release version 1.0.1 of the SharedPlan iPhone project management app. Version 1.0.1 fixes a couple of minor problems – the app has been remarkably solid and is in use by thousands of iPhone users. The iPhone app is freely available here.

If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch we have some great news for you!
As I mentioned in our last newsletter we have been working on an app for the iPhone. Well, the SharedPlan iPhone Project Management app has been approved by Apple (on the first try – which we understand is pretty rare) and is now freely available to you. You can download it from iTunes now.
The SharedPlan iPhone app provides you with a read-only view into the latest status of your projects stored in SharedPlan Central (our online tools for project planning and management). Project status that may be viewed includes:
- a summary of the project with project goal, web site, overview, and version information
- project resources with assignments, notes, email and phone numbers (you can quickly send email or call resources)
- project tasks with start and end dates, duration, resource, and critical path information.
The SharedPlan app connects to SharedPlan Central to gather your project information. Use the app with your existing account, or let it create a free account for you and populate it with a sample project to get you started.
The SharedPlan iPhone app caches project information so you can update the project information before going into an area with no wireless network – very handy for meetings.
We’ve been using it internally for a few weeks now and have been amazed at how access through the iPhone rounds out the services offered by Central and Pro. With the addition of the iPhone app you can now truly stay up on your project deliverables and status from anywhere, anytime – Pro on your Mac or PC, Central for the Web, and now the iPhone app for your pocket/purse.
